GREECE
1953
SUSTAINED
progress toward the international enactment of calendar reform
was reported at the Seventh Annual Meeting 15 January
1954 of The World Calendar Association,
International, held in the International Building, New York City.
Published highlights (JCR Vol. 24, April 1954) for
GREECE:
Since 1937, Greece has been included among the
governments which actively support calendar reform at al international
meetings. The official position remains exactly as it was expressed
in its communication to the League of Nations in August 1937:
"The Greek government is in principle favorable to calendar
reform." Coupled with this long-standing support is the declaration
of the Greek Orthodox Church, dating back to 1931, when the Oecumenical
Patriarchate declared itself in agreement with The World Calendar
plan, a position which has been repeatedly re-stated since that
time.
