COSTA RICA
1953

SUSTAINED progress toward the international enactment of calendar reform was reported at the Seventh Annual Meeting 15 January 1954 of The World Calendar Association, International, held in the International Building, New York City. Published highlights (JCR Vol. 24, April 1954) for COSTA RICA:

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has shown a renewed interest in calendar reform. during the summer of 1953 the Foreign Minister, Fernando Lara, referred the subject before the National University. . . . Literature in English on calendar reform is available through the daily Libre Prensa and the popular weekly Mujer y Hogar. A Spanish book on calendar reform, published recently in Panama, is displayed at the National Library by the director, Don Julian Marchena. There has lately been some favorable discussion in the press and on the radio. It is expected that the new President, José Figueres Ferrer, will take some action during the coming year.
